Race Director Linda Maxwell shares the excitement of our brand-new half marathon course
The Bellin Women’s Half Marathon is charting a brand-new course for 2017, firmly planting our roots in downtown Green Bay to enhance the participant and spectator experience. Registration opens tomorrow, and we can’t wait for you to see what’s new.
We’ve always had a strong presence in downtown Green Bay, with our pre- and post-race event festivities taking place in this vibrant urban setting — and that will continue. Having our start and finish downtown, too, provides a host of advantages for participants and spectators alike — and we know they’re going to love the miles in between.
So where will our new course take you? The 2017 Bellin Women’s Half Marathon will start outside the KI Convention Center in downtown Green Bay. Participants will cross the Main Street Bridge and turn south on North Broadway, which they’ll traverse through Green Bay and Ashwaubenon, into De Pere (North Broadway becomes South Broadway and eventually Fort Howard Avenue). Relay pairs will exchange their wristbands just before participants head down Reid Street and skirt the St. Norbert College campus before crossing the Claude Allouez Bridge in De Pere. They’ll take the scenic Fox River Trail back north, finishing in the heart of downtown on Green Bay’s CityDeck.
This new course is fun, flat, beautiful and wonderfully spectator friendly from start to finish. You’ll be running through some great Green Bay, Ashwaubenon and De Pere neighborhoods and taking in some awesome entertainment before enjoying the beautiful and ever-popular Fox River Trail. Your loved ones will be able to cheer for you multiple times throughout the course, with easy access and parking at a host of locations along the way.
And there are other advantages. Pre-race, there will be ample parking for participants and spectators in the downtown ramps. You’ll be able to stay nice and warm inside the KI Convention Center before getting started. And the finish is awesome! You’ll wrap up your race in the heart of Green Bay on the CityDeck, where you’ll be just a stone’s throw from our post-race riverfront party venue, Hagemeister Park. We’ll be moving up the party and awards to late morning, giving you a more convenient and immediate way to celebrate your accomplishment.
So what hasn’t changed for 2017? We’re providing an amazing, female-focused weekend experience. We’ll kick things off with our Friday night Women’s Inspiration Dinner (keynote speaker to be announced soon) before you run or relay 13.1 miles Saturday morning. You’ll get our second-to-none post-race goodies and event swag, including a long-sleeved hoodie finisher shirt, one-of-a-kind headband and custom medal — and our post-race party will be as great a celebration as ever.
We’ll see you downtown on Oct. 7!
